Planning
This is a completed trip! You can read about how it went here.
Soon, I’ll be taking a long weekend trip to Nashville. It’s a great chance for me to check out a major US destination and check another state off my list (I’ve only been to 28 so far).
Right now, the only thing I have booked are my flights, and for the first time in a while, I chose Southwest. I think I’ve flown Southwest a total of two times in my life, the most recent time about 5+ years ago. While it isn’t typically my airline of choice, for a 2.5 hour flight and over $200 in roundtrip savings, I decided to give it a shot.
What I’m Planning
I really only know about two major things that Nashville is famous for: country music and southern food. I’ve heard great things about live country music at the bars on Broadway and I can’t wait to check it out.
I’m a huge fan of southern food. I don’t eat much of it in NYC because it’s never as good as it is in the south. I feel like I could hop into a random diner in the south and easily satisfy my cravings for shrimp and grits, fried chicken and mac and cheese. (Of course that doesn’t mean I’m not going to do my research.)
I’ll definitely be looking for restaurants where I can try: hot chicken, Tennessee BBQ, and have a ton of sweet tea.
Lucky for me, the coverage of Nashville restaurants is extensive, from several Eater articles to a robust showing of Yelp reviews. Even though I’m just starting out in my research, I’ve been surprised by how many upscale and stylish restaurants there are to choose from. As I narrow down my choices, I’m going to be aiming for a mix of trendy, modern spots and local classics.
For accommodations, since we’ll be mostly focused on eating and going out at night, we’re going for something on the more luxurious side so that we can enjoy the hotel in the mornings and afternoons if we want to.
